don't you love mebig wheel demosDownload
this is a track that i have written for big wheel and the spokes.  the drums are tracked, but everything else is me.  this is obviously unfinished, but it should give you an idea as to what big wheel is about....groove, groove and more groove.

i wrote this song while recording it...this seems to be the easiest way for me to hear a song; as it's being written.  this song is powerful to me because it's true for millions of young people who don't have a silver spoon on their plate....all over the world.  the only thing they have to look to is this, it's the only opportunity for some....laying their life on the line for (nothing) someone else.  kind of in the vein of "fortunate son" by creedence, i suppose....but that's not what i was thinking.  i started playing the little jumpy guitar thing, hoping something happy and uplifting would come out, lyrically.  this didn't happen.
hey, you can't help what you write....
i suppose i write such songs of despair all the time due to the fact that i have it so good in my life....i can't really identify with people going through a lot of the stuff i write about, but i can sympathize.
hope you like it....i'm just going to keep them coming and, with your feedback, i'll find out which new songs make it onto the album.

peace,

jay
butta butta (slow jam)big wheel demosDownload
with big wheel, we love to jam.  we start every live set with a free for all excursion into the unknown, and that's how we start our practices as well.  this is one song that stemmed from cliff and frank and i being too tired to play "butta butta" at regular speed....this is what you get.

okay, here's another rough demo that was thrown together in haste (i'm very impatient...).  this features cliff alloy on drums (one sm58 mic in my living room), and myself for the rest.  this song has been a live staple for solo acoustic shows, as well as big wheel shows, for some time now.  no one tell cliff this song is on here....he makes a tiny boo boo in it and wouldn't like to know it's out in public.  instead, concentrate on the 28 mistakes i make in this song!
the vocals were done a long time ago (before my ribbon microphone) so are a bit rough around the edges as far as mixing goes....but hey, it's a rough demo.

cliff and i sat in my living room and played side by side while i sang along, no monitors, metronome, etc.  i let that sit for a long while until recently i overdubbed some bass and an electric guitar.
thanks for listening.
jamlive at loplopsDownload
free jam taken from a summer evening at loplops in 2004 (i believe).  the band consists of cliff alloy on drums, myself on guitar and the incomparable roberto bellan on the hammond c3 organ.
roberto is from italy and we had a blast playing with him.  although there was a definite language barrier, music was truly universal on this night and we all played off of each other as though we were longtime bandmates.
in one of the other songs, you can actually hear me trying to explain to roberto that the song was in the key of "C".  he said "G", and i replied with "C"...he thought i meant "si" as in "yes"...this went on for about 45 seconds!
the night was recorded by george ravlich of crank sound distribution and mixed by himself and larry borek of red gecko studio.
we had a blast that night and hope to see roberto again soon, it was a pleasure to work with him.

enjoy
